What Can the Generals Redoubt Do?

We often hear from our supporters how shocked and dismayed they are by the recent creep of woke culture on campus at W&L.  Many want to know what we are doing to change things.

That’s a fair question.

The mission of The Generals Redoubt is to empower alumni, students, and parents in the W&L community to celebrate our unique history and traditions of honor, civility, and classical liberal arts education.

We are working to reestablish institutions and leaders of W&L which reflect our community’s best values and traditions, and more generally to restore the W&L brand.

We advance our mission by supporting student initiatives such as The W&L Spectator, by bringing like-minded speakers to campus—including a major investment in the upcoming Mock Convention—by keeping alumni and parents informed through media outreach, and by funding social events such as our recent Parents’ Weekend reception.

We provide legal support for students where administration actions are deemed unwise, illegal, or oppressive and against common rights, provided for under state and federal law.

We encourage free and open inquiry and commentary on administration policies antithetical to classical education, freedom of speech and civil discourse.

With our recent purchase of the landmark Fancy Hill property, we have established a permanent presence near Lexington where we will be able to engage more effectively in mission-advancing programs—both digital and in-person—to enhance our outreach to alumni, students, and other supporters.

We are striving to build bridges to students, faculty, administrators, and members of the Board of Trustees to serve as a voice for the thousands of alumni who share our love for W&L’s rich history and culture.

Our task is not an easy one.  We recognize that we are engaged in what promises to be a long struggle. While we often find ourselves on the outside looking in, we have built tremendous momentum and garnered significant support in a relatively short period of time.

We vow to continue the fight, and when necessary to apply pressure on the leadership of W&L to hear your voices.  We have no alternative if we wish to save our beloved alma mater.  The stakes are too high.  We are confident that over time, with the continued commitment of our supporters, we will prevail.  Click on link to view a list of Activities & Accomplishments of The Generals Redoubt.
