Merry Christmas
Two Timely Book Reviews
By Dr. Walter Beverly, W&L, Class of 1971
Author John Ellis was recently in the news, in his article “Higher Ed Has Become a Threat to America”, [Wall Street Journal, 12-4-23]. Ellis illuminates American academia’s downward path of socialist mendacity running amok on America’s campuses.
For anyone who has lately come to this realization but are not familiar with the decades long march toward this sorry state of indoctrination today, Mr. Ellis’s book, “The Breakdown of Higher Education: How It Happened, the Damage It Does, and What Can Be Done.” Is a must read.
The term “Socialism” is so often the focal point of discussion now that the strategic and tactical methods used are often overlooked. There is no better place to start than reading Saul Alinsky’s book, “Rules for Radicals”. Compare this tactical cookbook with today’s demonstrator signs and chants, and university presidents’ mealy-mouthed asides to avoid admitting the truth; you see the same methods adopted nationwide, spreading what Elon Musk terms ‘the woke mind virus’ of Wokeness.
So, with no further ado, read Dr. Walter Beverly’s review of these two books.

We hope they strengthen your understanding of the existential crisis facing America today. When enough of us know the origins and means of this ‘woke mind virus’ dividing this wonderful country, we will be fully prepared to raise our voices and say “No”, and to vocally and financially support others to throw back the socialist tide.
We walk this earth in full measure of our energy and awareness for a very short time; we must use our greatest strengths when they are needed most.
