Broken Windows, Caveat Delinquentes
The following letter to the editor was submitted to the Lexington Gazette March 27, 2023, before Matt Walsh canceled his appearance March 29, due to death threats near his home in Nashville. I wanted the campus, and the town community, to know where Virginia law draws the line about death threats and speaker events. See link below.

What prompted my letter to the Gazette was a Washington and Lee student’s social media broadcast, with WWII photo of dead fascists, threatening Walsh event attendees. President Dudley ultimately issued a campus statement as reported in The W&L Spectator, which fell miles short of what another academic leader, Ms. Jenny Martinez, Dean of Stanford Law, issued on March 22 which drew a hard line in the sand to protect free speech after protesters’ disruption of Judge Kyle Duncan’s speech. Compare the two. Who is a stronger advocate of freedom of speech? You be the judge.
