Is Ideological Indoctrination Trumping Academic Integrity?
These pages recently reported some initial thoughts on growing disclosures of questionable behavior by Boston University Professor Ibram X. Kendi’s management of a “Center for Antiracist Research” there. For additional perspective on this matter, we are sharing with you today a longish, but we believe worthwhile, extract from a recent podcast of The Glenn Show. The show is hosted by Brown University economics professor Glenn Loury and has as a bi-weekly guest, Columbia University linguistics professor John McWhorter. I met Professor Loury at the 2nd Annual meeting of The Jefferson Council, which seeks, among other aims, to preserve and protect the legacy of the University of Virginia’s Founder, Thomas Jefferson. I jumped at the opportunity then to have a 20–30 minute discussion with him about today’s world. We will share with you in the near future the talk he delivered on race relations.
Professors Loury and McWhorter are joined early on for a portion of the podcast by Professor Dan Subotnik of the Touro College Law Center. The conversation is wide-ranging and will provide useful insights on the management of today’s institutions of higher learning and discuss how their cultures influence human relations and fundamental western civilization concepts such as free speech, academic freedom and viewpoint diversity. There are enormous opportunities for listeners to connect a variety of dots. Immediately below, you will find Professor Loury’s introduction to the podcast and an extended (70 minutes) extract that covers a broad range of topics with Professor Subnotik for 30+ minutes followed with analysis of Professor Kendi and the ecosystem that allowed him to flourish until recently.
